Counseling Hypnotherapy: a psychotherapeutic approach that employs hypnosis in combination with counseling in order to facilitate healing and promote well-being.

Please Note: This applies to all levels and school approvals. If an applicant has had their membership rejected or revoked by another counseling/hypnotherapy association at any time, they must provide all documents relating to that rejection(s) and give IACH written permission to consult with and ask for records about that event or events. Any false statements and/or documents, either verbal or written, will be grounds for rejection of the Application. All application fees, except the Review fee, are refundable if the Application is rejected.

REQUIREMENTS

Student:

• Completed Application form
• $25.00 Application Fee (one time)
• $50.00 dues. (yearly)
• Must be enrolled in a hypnotherapy course or have taken previous Basic training in Hypnotherapy.
• Must submit the name and contact information of ONE reference from a professional in the field (on the Application form).
• Please note: student members cannot charge for their services.
• When practicing, students must inform their practice "clients" that they are a student, and that this interaction is for practice only.

Resident Hypnotherapist:

• Completed Application form.
• $35.00 Application Review Fee
• $25.00 Application Fee (one time)
• $80.00 dues. (yearly)
• Must have successfully completed a Basic hypnotherapy course with a minimum of 200 hours (on-site and/or distance). Total hours include class time, studying, and watching videos.
• Must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of supervision (direct client contact) within the course. Online or on-site.
• Must have completed a minimum of 60 hours of counseling training (Basic Counselling Skills). The counseling portion of Hypnotherapy or any related training would be included in the counseling requirement.
• Must submit the names and contact information of two references from professionals in the field (on the Application form).
• Must have read and agree to abide by the IACH Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct.
• Applicants must answer the following question: In the IACH Code Ethics (on the IACH Web Site), what is the 1 st bullet point under FORMULATION OF ETHICS? Please note: Resident Level Hypnotherapists must only practice using methods such as; Stress reduction, Habits, Smoking, Simple Weight loss, Phobias, Self-esteem, and general Counselling. They must not practice specifically with medically diagnosed issues or, in general, medical issues.

The Examining Board will review all materials submitted and either accept or reject the Application. The applicant must appeal any decisions by the Standards committee concerning their application within 10 business days by e-mail.

Documents required:

Certificate/diploma of satisfactory completion and/or Transcript.
Any other materials that go to supporting the Application.
Any documents requested by the Standards Committee.

Counseling Hypnotherapist (Cand.) Requirements

• $30.00 application fee (one time), $80.00 dues (yearly)
• Completed Application form
• Must have successfully completed an Advanced Hypnotherapy course from an IACH “Counseling Hypnotherapist level I” approved school.

OR

• $40.00 application review fee (does not apply to applicants who have graduated from an IACH-approved school)
• $30.00 application fee (one time), $80.00 dues (yearly)
• Must have successfully completed all of the Requirements for “Resident
  Hypnotherapist.”
• Must have successfully completed an Advanced Hypnotherapy course with a minimum of 250 hours of hypnotherapy training. Total hours to include class time, studying, watching videos and including a minimum of 30 hrs. of Supervision (direct client contact). Online or on-site.
• A minimum of 50 hours of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy training must be included
  in the applicant’s training.
• Must have read and agree to abide by the IACH Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct.

Counseling Hypnotherapist Requirements

• $30.00 application fee (one time), $80.00 dues (yearly)
• Completed Application form
• Must have successfully completed an Advanced Hypnotherapy course from an IACH “Counseling Hypnotherapist level II” approved school.
• Must have successfully completed the following  Counselling Courses (each section except for Supervision must be a minimum of 30 hours):
  1. DSM V
  2. Abnormal Psychology
  3. Family Therapy
  4. Group Therapy
  5. Ethics
  6. Supervision (140hrs. direct client contact and 14 hrs. Supervisor – student contact)
  7. Trauma/Abuse Therapy

OR

• $40.00 application review fee (does not apply to applicants who have graduated from an IACH-approved school)
• $30.00 application fee (one time), $80.00 dues (yearly)
• Must have successfully completed all of the Requirements for “Counselling

• and

The Examining Board will review all materials submitted and either accept or reject the Application. The applicant must appeal any decisions by the Standards committee concerning their Application within ten business days.

If the applicant does not meet all of the requirements of the level applied for then they may be offered the level below that.

Hypnotherapy Teacher Requirements

$35.00 application fee (one time)
$95.00 (yearly dues)

Must meet all of the requirements for the Counseling Hypnotherapist Level

• Must have completed a minimum of 200 hours teaching Hypnotherapy.
• Documents required:
  1. Verification of teaching experience (e.g. an outline of the course(s) taught, video recording of one 45-min. class presentation)
  2. Official written letter of reference and overview of teaching experience from the educational institution where teaching was taking place
  3. If this Application is by a school owner or an administrator, please provide records to show the number of hours taught and over what period in place of a letter of reference.

The Examining Board will review all materials submitted and either accept or reject the Application. The applicant must appeal any decisions by the Standards committee concerning their application within 10 business days.

Hypnotherapy Teacher Candidate Requirements

$30.00 application fee (one time)
$95.00 (yearly dues)

• The IACH offers a Hypnotherapy Teacher apprenticeship program to those current and prospective members who meet the Counseling Hypnotherapist requirements and wish to pursue Hypnotherapy Teacher status but lack the necessary experience teaching Hypnotherapy. In order to initiate the apprenticeship program, the candidate has to secure mentorship from an instructor who has taught hypnotherapy for at least 5 years and is associated with an educational institution that has been approved or is deemed acceptable to the IACH. The instructor is required to inform IACH in writing of his/her intention to become a mentor to the applicant.

Honorary Membership Requirements

Hypnotherapists and others, who are recognized internationally for their outstanding achievement as leaders in the field of Hypnotherapy and/or related fields, may be granted honorary membership status. No verification of the applicant’s credentials is required by IACH at this membership level.
